Introduction

The Ajmer Sharif Dargah, located in the heart of Ajmer, Rajasthan, is one of the most revered Sufi shrines in India. Every year, millions of devotees from all over the world gather here to celebrate the Urs festival, a significant event that commemorates the death anniversary of the Sufi Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Hassan Chishty r.a.

Urs Mubarak, which is celebrated in the Islamic month of Rajab typically spans over 10 days. (from 1st Rajab to 9th Rajab) . The dates vary slightly depending on the sighting of the moon, so it's essential to confirm the dates closer to the event.

The city becomes a center of spiritual activity with the fragrance of roses and the warmth of prayers. The Dargah is adorned with colorful lights, flowers, and flags, adding to the festive atmosphere. Accommodation options range from hotels to guesthouses, ensuring a comfortable stay for all the pilgrims.


SIGNIFICANCE OF THE URS FESTIVAL

Flag Hoisting Ceremony

The Urs festival begins with the ceremonial hoisting of a flag (chadar) at the Dargah. This is a symbol of spiritual commencement.

Jannati Darwaza Reopens

Devotees enter in jannati darwaza and experience divine spiritual power.

Chatti Sharif:

The sixth day of Urs is revered as Chatti Sharif, a significant and sacred ritual. On this blessed day, special prayers and ceremonies are observed, and devoted followers participate in a grand offering in honor of Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti.

Namaze Jummah:

During the holy Urs, the Friday prayer (Namaze Jummah) holds profound importance. Thousands of devoted followers gather to offer their prayers and seek spiritual guidance and blessings on this sacred day.

Bara Qul:

The Urs reaches its spiritual final day with Bara Qul. This solemn occasion includes the recitation of the Holy Quran and special prayers. It marks the final day of the Urs, where followers pray for peace, prosperity, and divine blessings. The entire Dargah Sharif is respectfully cleansed with rose water by the devoted pilgrims.

KEY PRACTICES DURING URS FESTIVAL

Chadar offering (Chadar poshi)

The chadar, which is laid over the blessed shrine (mazar-e-akhdas) of Khwaja Gharib Nawaz (r.a), symbolizes devotion and respect. During urs festival Offering a chadar is considered a powerful form of worship, seen as a means to receive blessings and fulfill vows.

Langar and Deg :

Contributing in The Langar (free community kitchen) and the Deg (large cooking cauldrons) is considered a source of great blessings and spiritual merit. The food distributed among everyone irrespective of their religion, caste, greed, colour and gender, and the Langar also transported to rural areas spreading a message of brotherhood, humanity, love and communal harmony.

Chatti Sharif Niyaz

On the day of Chatti Sharif, offering niyaz (sacred food) holds special spiritual significance. It is believed that the blessings and merit of giving niyaz on this day are doubled, and devotees trust that such contributions help fulfill their vows and bring them spiritual peace.

Khatam Sharif (Recitation of the Holy Quran)

Special sessions of Quranic recitation are conducted, where the entire Quran is read in the Dargah. This is done to seek blessings and spiritual peace.

Qawalli Performances

Qawwali, the soulful Sufi devotional music, takes center stage during the Urs. Renowned qawwals gather to perform, creating an atmosphere of devotion and ecstasy.

Ziyarat (Visit to the Shrine)

Devotees make pilgrimages to the shrine, offering prayers and seeking the blessings of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti.

Lighting of Lamps (chiraj roshan)

Devotees light lamps and candles as an act of devotion and to symbolize the illumination of the soul.

Sufi Discourses

Scholars and spiritual leaders deliver discourses on Sufism, spreading the teachings of peace and love.

4. Offering :if you want to take part in any of the holy key practices mentioned above like chadar, langar, niyaz,khatam sharif or deg offerings of ajmer sharif you can contact the Duago bhai Syed Ali Dujana gurdezi so that you can also get the sacred Tabarruk of dargah sharif.

Note:

You can contribute whatever you wish. If, for any reason, you are unable to be present at the Urs Sharif, you can make your offering through online modes as well. This way, niyaz or participation in the langar can be arranged on your behalf at the Dargah Sharif, or necessary arrangements can be made in your name. Please do not send money intended for Sadaqah or Zakat as part of this contribution. This is because the offering is specifically the niyaz of Khwaja Sahib (R.A.), and we, the 'Syeds,' also partake in this sacred food. Sadaqah or Zakat is considered 'Haram' (forbidden) for Syeds. It is important to remember that this niyaz is in honor of Khwaja Sahib (R.A.), and people from all backgrounds, rich and poor alike, partake in it.
